Did you know you can fish anywhere in Wisconsin without a license or trout stamp this coming weekend? It’s true! This includes inland waters and the WI side of the Great Lakes and Mississippi (excluding spring trout ponds). The best news? The La Crosse Region is bursting with rivers, waterways and Lake Onalaska for you to fish!

Other fishing rules will apply including limits on the number and size of fish you can keep and the release of certain species. The WI Department of Natural Resources is promoting the opportunity to fish almost anywhere where there is an open season.

As the WI Dept. of Natural Resources states, NO ICE IS SAFE ICE: “please exercise caution before heading out on the ice. Be aware of the honeycomb effect, which occurs after freeze-thaw-freeze conditions and weakens the ice. Check with local bait shops for current ice conditions where you plan to fish.”
