To the southeast of La Crosse lies an agricultural region largely settled by Norwegian immigrants. The dairy farms and open fields around Viroqua and Westby are the goals for today’s ride, reached after leaving the eastern shores of the Mississippi and climbing the long valleys of the Driftless region. The return loops north of La Crosse through Barre Mills so that you’ll re-enter town from the opposite direction from which you left. It’s a long day in the saddle through rural country on quiet roads, but a varied landscape and regular stops make this outing absolutely worth it. Come back in the fall to see the colors change.
