King! By Gabriel Gara Lonning is a multi-faceted universe following the pursuit of one (experimental) dancer set to become the coveted “King of Comedy”. Interwoven in New New York’s comedy warzone, this show was written while attending Smack Mellon, an artist residency in Dumbo.
Gabriel Gara Lonning is a performance artist based in Brooklyn, NY. He began performing stand-up comedy in NYC’s nightlife when he was 19 years old. At 24, he embarked on three solo shows that grew alongside his transition from woman to man. These “dance-comedy” shows took him to unimaginable places, from Alan Cumming’s Tartan Week Brunch Show to being an inaugural recipient of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “Keep it Fringe Award” in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was named New York Theatre Festival’s “Best Actor” of 2025 and is so excited to bring “King!” to his birth town of La Crosse.
