An almost 20-year dream is finally becoming a reality in Chaseburg Wisconsin. For over 15 years, Rick and Sue Williams and Linda DeGarmo have been talking about creating a memorial for children who never took a breath or that died way too soon. They all lost a child, Rick and Sue lost their son Gavin before his first birthday, and Marv and Linda lost their 9-year-old daughter Tammi to leukemia in 1978. After losing another young man to drowning from our area, they decided they could not wait any longer. They reached out to other people who had lost children, or friends of people who lost a child and A Place for Angels was born. A Place for Angels is a memorial on a hill overlooking the beautiful Chaseburg walking trail where people can go to remember their child. The memorial consists of an angel holding the hands of a young boy and girl. The wall behind the angel holds the names of almost 160 children. There are also benches that are in loving memory of some of our kids. The memorial is handicap accessible from a path right off of the walking trail that goes up to the wall and angel. This memorial was made possible by generous donations from the community, friends and family, both monetary and in kind. We are so grateful to everyone who has given of their time and talents.
We will be holding a dedication ceremony on August 30th at the Chaseburg Village Park. Food will be available at 12:30 with the ceremony at 2 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Anyone with any questions can contact Linda at 608-769-1919 or Rick at 608-632-2984. We hope to see you on August 30th. We would love to have you help us advertise this beautiful memorial and attend our event.
