Rail Meets River: The La Crosse Queen
After stepping off the Amtrak, make your way to Riverside Park and hop on the La Crosse Queen, an authentic paddlewheel riverboat. This classic sightseeing cruise offers a relaxing float along the Mississippi, complete with scenic views and a chance to see the historic swing bridge in action. The bridge, built in the 19th century, still swings open to let boats pass and closes again to carry trains. If the timing’s right, you might even spot it moving, a rare and fascinating moment where rail meets river in real time. It’s the perfect way to switch from train tracks to river currents and get a fresh perspective on La Crosse from the water.
