The River Rat Relay Challenge has been extended through November! Celebrate the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge’s 100th anniversary by exploring the refuge and earning a FREE iron-on patch!

This relay is a self-led, self-paced event. To get started, pick-up a challenge card at the La Crosse District Visitor Center or download one here! Stop-by the five locations listed on the card and note which animal you see on a sign there. Redeem your completed challenge card for a free commemorative patch at the Visitor Center! These patches are a limited-time offering and are available for all who complete the relay. It is possible to visit all locations in one day and signs are placed within a short walk of parking areas.

The La Crosse District Visitor Center is open for summer hours Tuesday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. during April – October. Winter hours begin in November; Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Closed federal holidays and on Wed. August 21 for an all-staff meeting.
