Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge – Marshland Access will be Closed
Due to Road Improvements

Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge would like to inform the public that Marshland Access will be closed to all public entry due to a road improvement project.  The Marshland Access road project will provide safer access from State Highway 35 and improve the condition of the entire access road.  Marshland Access road improvement project is part of a larger project to improve access on both roads, the Marshland Access, and the Main Entrance Road. These improvements will ensure safe access during the times the entrance road is flooded.

The Marshland Access will be closed to the public starting Monday, July 22, 2024. Marshland Access will remain closed for the entire duration of the road improvement project. Detour signs will route visitors to the Main Entrance Road. In the event that the Main Entrance Road is closed due to flooding while Marshland Access is also closed, there will be no access to the refuge. We will continue to monitor flood conditions and will reopen the Entrance Road when it is safe to travel.

The road improvement at Marshland Access is expected to be completed within eight weeks. Thank you for your patience as we work to improve your National Wildlife Refuge.
