UWL will host a free TEDxUWLaCrosse event Oct. 1 exploring the Driftless Region
Speakers will explore the Driftless Region through land, air and water at a TEDxUWLaCrosse event at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at UW-La Crosse. The free event will be held in The Bluffs, UWL Student Union, 521 East Ave. N., La Crosse. Online registration is required.
TEDxUWLaCrosse is an independently organized TEDx event that brings together live speakers and TED Talks videos to spark discussion and connection around a broad theme.
TEDxUWLaCrosse has been held at UWL since 2013. This year's speakers will explore the Driftless Region through perspectives ranging from art and creativity to environmental science and music.
Featured speakers will include:
Niti Mishra, UWL professor of geography and environmental science, who will explore how drones and other technologies can reveal subtle environmental changes.
Jennifer Williams, UWL professor of art, who will discuss how creative practice in nature can cultivate a meditation-like state of flow.
John Smith, songwriter and performer, who will reflect on how the Driftless Region's rivers, streams, coulees and ridgetops have influenced his compositions and approach to music-making.
TEDxUWLaCrosse is the first event of UWL's Spotlight Series, a collection of events on the UWL campus designed to showcase some of the university's most engaging experiences while strengthening connections among students, faculty, staff, alumni and the broader community.
