Discover the La Crosse Region’s beautiful riverfront, historic districts and famed, scenic parks on the Explore La Crosse guided Historic Trolley Tours. The air-conditioned trolley bus tours are guided by the region’s knowledgeable county historical society guides and other local historians, helping you uncover the beauty of the region’s riverfront, historical districts and scenic parks. From June – October, visitors can enjoy the region’s scenery and immersive, themed step-off experiences.

1. Mansions and Memories
A Look at La Crosse’s Most Significant Homes and the Stories Behind Them
This 2.5 hour tour will drive through Historic Downtown La Crosse and have step-offs at the Hixon House and at Castle La Crosse. The tour at Hixon House will include a ground floor tour, time to walk through the gardens, and refreshments in the Visitor Center. Historic Castle La Crosse will also include a tour of its exquisite premises.
2. Dark La Crosse Tour
Ride along for true tales of La Crosse’s dark history, scandal, and murder.
This guided experience focuses on La Crosse’s macabre past. Travel down a dark path through the red light district, small-town politics gone wrong, hot tempers, cold-blooded murders, and grisly events. The tour has step-offs at the Pump House Regional Arts Center, an exciting, private theater performance, and savory refreshments.


3. Grand La Crosse Trolley Tour
Saturdays in October
Everything that makes our city “grand!” A grand historic home, a grand view, a grand time! This three-hour tour includes all the highlights of La Crosse, including a tour of the Hixon House (a favorite of our river cruise boat visitors!), a visit to Grandad Bluff, one of the highest overlooks on the entire Mississippi, and a V.I.P. lunch at Le Chateau restaurant. Plus lots of surprises!

4. We Love La Crescent Trolley Tour
Saturdays in October
What’s not to love about La Crescent? Discover the charms of the “Apple Capital of Minnesota.” This four-hour tour includes a visit to the family-owned Van Lin Orchards, the La Crescent History Center, and the Apple Blossom Overlook (not quite as high as Grandad Bluff, but still a mighty fine view!). Tour will end at the Minnesota Visitors’ Center with a Minnesota wine and Wisconsin cheese tasting. Plus (you guessed it!) lots of surprises!
