ABOUT THE BOOK
When Mai Neng Moua decided to get married, she asked her family not to collect a bride price for her—the cash amount the groom’s family pays the bride’s family for marrying the bride. Mai Neng’s decision would have devastating consequences and lead her to question what it means to be Hmong in America.
